Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan : Retired Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan has been appointed as the next Chief of Defense Staff. He will also serve as Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs. He has served in several commands, staffs and other services during a service period of more than 40 years Jammu and Kashmir and has extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations in the North East.
The post of Chief of Defense Staff is vacant since December last year. The post fell vacant due to the death of General Bipin Rawat in a helicopter accident.
